Google Adwords Does Not Like Creativity

I was strolling through the Clickbank Marketplace trying to find a new product to promote and noticed multiple survey sites were doing rather well, so I decided to find three of them and do a simple review of each. I did my research and started looking for a domain. I wanted something catchy, something that would stand out on a Google Adwords ad.

Then it hit me, Survey kind of reminds me of Scurvy. And I associate Scurvy with sailing the High Seas. I could even do the whole page in Pirate Speak! Argh! I be on t’ sumt’n, Matey. Ok, it may sound a little silly, but if I was going to do it, I might as well have fun with it. So, SurveyScurvy.com was born and the Notorious Captain Scurvy was going to review Online Survey Sites. I was pretty proud of myself. It sure beats the millions of straight copy sales pages you find elsewhere.

I built my site and wrote my copy up normally, then went through two separate Pirate translators, tweaking it so it was somewhat easy to read, even if it was Pirate Speak. Now I had to write my ads. I was having fun with this and who knows, maybe I could make a buck or two. On to the Google Adwords campaigns.

I did my keyword research and decide to throw them all up at once for a small test run. I would narrow them down from there. I set up my Pirate Speak ads and head off to me bunk for some shuteye. The next day, I decided to see what kind of traffic my keywords were generating and if I had any conversions. I open up my campaign and in bold red letters, your ads have been disable due to improper grammar and/or spelling. Ok, that was a paraphrase, but you get the point. An editor had reviewed my ads and decided it was too stupid to be viable. Never mind that I mention Captain in the ad and the domain name has the word Scurvy in it. They suggested I use bland ads like everyone else and their dog were already doing.

So, I did what every stubborn headed, anti-establishment, rebellious person would do in this situation. I copied the ads, deleted the disabled ones and started them again, Pirate Speak and all. Hehehe. It seems to have worked. I went a few more days without getting slapped by the Google editors. Not wanting to get my whole account suspended, I did pause the campaign after a few more days. That and I wanted to revamp my keywords.

Oh and if you are wondering, here are the ads….. Don’t they beat the same old Boring Adwords Ads?
